Kothrud is located in South Western part of Pune starting from Karve Road, running alongside Paud Road and ending at Mumbai Pune Bypass road. Kothrud was also known as Kothrud Baug in times of its rulers Peshwas. Karve Road begins from Deccan and is extended till Warje covering large part of the city. Pune railway station lies approximately 13 kms away from Kothrud. In order to reduce traffic congestion in city, the PMC administration has proposed tunnel from Sutardara in Kothrud to Panchwati, which will significantly connect Hingane, Kothrud with Aundh, Pashan and Baner. It will reduce traffic on Paud Road, Senapati Bapat Road and Karve Road in future.
