Central Government announced third list of smart cities: 27 cities qualify from 12 states

On 20th September, Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu announced the names of 27 more cities from 12 states whose development will be co-funded by the Centre under the Narendra Modi-led government’s flagship Smart Cities Mission.

The smart cities list includes 5 cities from Maharashtra, 4 each from Karnataka & Tamil Nadu, 3 from Uttar Pradesh, 2 each from Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, and one each from Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Gujarat, Nagaland and Sikkim.

Under the government’s Smart Cities Mission, a total of 100 cities are to be developed as smart ones by the year 2019-20. All smart cities are equipped with proper facilities like regular water and power supply, proper sanitation and waste-management systems, IT connectivity, efficient public transportation systems and e-governance, etc.
